Bake at 350 F. in a 9-inch tube pan for 40-45 minutes

Yield: 1 9 inch tube cake

INGREDIENTS: |

1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1 1/2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoons salt
1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla |

Chocolate Portion: melt 1/2 square choc with 1/8 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon hot water and 1 teaspoon sugar
Spice Portion: add 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/8 teaspoon cloves |

Blend shortening and sugar; add eggs and beat til creamy. Sift together dry ingredients twice, then add alternately with milk to sugar mix. Add vanilla.
Divide dough in 3 equal portions: 1-Light Portion: no additions, 2-Chocolate Portion, 3-Spice Portion.
Once you've added the ingredients to the Chocolate and Spice Portions drop the batter in equal spoonfulls around the base of the greased and floured pan. Once all the batter is in, use a spatula to fold the layers lightly together to create a swirl. Bake. let rest 10 minutes and take out of pan. |
